Challenges and tasks

Transform the former Milan EXPO territory into a

• platform for knowledge development and transfer,
• innovation park and collaboration catalyst amongst competitors and industries,
• connector between companies and start-ups,
• enabler of partnerships of public & private sectors
• hub for talent.

This required a combination of cutting-edge advice in multiple fields like innovation process and governance, corporate law, intellectual property policies and tools.

OXYGY's Approaches

• Bird & Bird identified the associative form of the network, cutting-edge IP procedures, contracts, meta-technology transfer office, policies & tools for best practice of IP rights
• OXYGY developed the overall concept and led the co-design of the innovation ecosystem with the 32 founding companies, through a series of “onboarding” workshops.
• OXYGY co-led the development of the innovation agenda for the entire ecosystem and for the 12 sectors involved

Outcomes and value created

• An ecosystem set up that would encourage not only vertical collaboration but also the “cross-pollination” between companies belonging to twelve different sectors, usually not capable to start common projects, enabled by highly innovative IP tools and a unique legal framework.
• A federated innovation platform allowing companies to develop new ideas, projects and visions – fast and effective – using pre-set tools & processes – available to all partners.
• Federated Innovation@MIND is now running an unique and hugely successful approach to “making the innovation district magic happen”.
